Antique Sarouk-Farahan, Persia, Late 19th Century - A staggered allover design of multi-lobed palmette and quatrefoil medallions repeats gracefully across the rich terracotta field of this exuberant antique Sarouk-Farahan. The intervening spaces are filled by a complex mesh of fine ivory vines that burgeon forth with tiny flowers and smaller palmette medallions. The vinescroll palmette border continues the lace-like detail of the field as well as its coloration, presenting the viewer with a uniform palette and design texture that makes this a first-rate decorative carpet.
