Antique Khotan Rug, Country Of Origin: East Turkestan, Circa Date: 1900 – This immense antique Khotan carpet was woven in East Turkestan, circa 1900 features an exceptional repeating pattern rendered in an exquisite combination of beige, camel brown and clear Persian blue. The broad field is decorated with an endless series of multi-directional shrubs, floral sprays and arabesque-like intersections that form an interlocking repeating pattern. The delicate borders are separated from the fantastical field by a series of bicolor outlines that display a clear Eastern influence. Delicate trifurcated floral sprays rendered in alternating colors create a meandering border pattern that leaps off the soft camel brown background. Each ornate rosette, floral element and ornamental trident is carefully outlined in contrasting colors that are seamlessly added to the limited color scheme, which is typical of weavings produced in Khotan.
