Bessarabian Kilim, Russia, Circa 1900 - Woven with an extremely dark ground and dominant borders, this Bessarabian rug features a number of regional rose bouquets and dramatically-shaded split-leaf motifs interspersed with dainty floral sprigs. The dominant Bessarabian-rose borders are set off from the floral field by prominent guardbands featuring reciprocating motifs and leafy vinescrolls.
