Bessarabian Kilim, Romania, Circa 1900 - Sprays of naturalistic plants and flowers are arrayed in columns on this lovely antique Bessarabian Kilim. While influenced by the realistic floral detail of French Aubusson flatwoven carpets, the effect here is quite distinctive by virtue of the arrangement in rows or columns. The richness of the colors comes through especially well against the dramatic black ground.
