Dorokhsh Rug, Persia, Circa 1900 - This stately and reserved antique Khorassan is very classically Persian. The undulating mauve and blue arabesque medallion floats in an ivory filled by small cruciform rosettes in mauve and blue arranged in staggered rows. Still, the scale of these rosettes is so much smaller than the medallion and corner pieces that the field functions essentially as a variegated-empty ground. It is enclosed by minor borders with vine scrolls and guards with butterfly-like palmettes. This rug is ideal for sophisticated a taste that enjoys the elegant and extremely antique look of classical oriental carpets.
