Hooked Rug, America, Circa 1900 - A lavender-blue trellis hung with four blooming red and apricot roses comprises the basic design of this unusual antique Arts and Crafts rug. But the trellis also acts as a border or frame separating the open striated tan field from the dark chocolate edges. Much of the appeal of the piece also derives from the contrast between large patches of color and the sparing use of linear detail.
