Origin: Persian Rugs

Antique Ghashgai Rug, Persia, 1900 — Woven by nomad artisans in the Fars province of southwestern Iran, this stunning Ghashgai carpet ensures a bold and highly impactful artistic statement. Boasting the bold color, exquisite geometry, and exceptionally rich dye singular to Ghashgai textiles, this magnificent work boasts ever increasing complexity from the outer borders to the core of the piece’s dark, dramatic heart. A border patterned in flourishes of chocolate, sand, and red frames the piece, giving way to a white field patterned with artful floral geometry. A contrasting red border follows, featuring a floral design that bears the distinct geometry on display throughout the piece, which itself gives way to the dramatic midnight background that forms the base of the piece’s complex core. At each corner lays a dramatic tribal motif patterned with stunning symmetrical florals, each surrounded with fine depictions of blossoms, birds, and vases. These motifs circle the dramatic art in the center: deep rich sky blue patterned with trees, blossoms, and the traditional diamond motif. Dramatic, striking, and inexpressibly lovely, this stunningly complex carpet makes a bold and dramatic artistic statement.
