Antique Kerman Persian Rug 1150
Antique Kerman Rug from
Central Persia, late nineteenth century
Whirling sprays of flowers
and serrated leaves in blue, green, tan, and ivory repeat dynamically in
staggered symmetry across the soft crimson field of this elegant little antique
Kerman. The main border is a classic Persian cartouche design, reduced in scale
and set against a crimson ground to complement the field design. Additional
minor borders of stylized vinescrolls and blossom garlands on dark brown and
ivory serve to delineate the main border as a frame more strongly against the
field. The rich saturated and varied coloration is unusual on antique Kermans.
