Antique Amritsar Rug 41047
Amritsar, India, Circa 1900 - A classic Persian Heriz or Serapi design provides the point of departure for this elegant and reserved Amritsar. A grand medallion and cornerpieces emitting jutting vines and palmettes dominates the field, with the bold angular drawing comparable to the best Serapi. But unlike the Persian carpets with such designs, this carpet does not apply a vibrant palette of reds, blues and greens. Rather, it displays a subdued palette of gentle mauves, cocoa, tan, and gold in field and border alike, which makes it a first-rate decorative carpet.
